Every species has its top period of the year.
I will explain what our seasons look like and which fish you can expect when.
March, April and May
This period is known for big tuna fishing (BFT). It is a fun and active fishery that is often rewarded with a big tuna. The fight with such a fish is super tough and a real experience. You can assume that it will take you two to three hours to get this fish in. The weight of this tuna varies between 100 and 300 kg, with peaks of up to 500 kg per fish. There is also the possibility to fish for other fish species. To catch these fish species, we use different techniques than for the really big tuna.
June, July and August
In the summer period is mainly fished for white and blue marlin. This fishing is mainly done trolling and can provide quite a spectacle. The marlin is known for the high and acrobatic jumps they make while playing the fish. A true experience. As a bycatch we mainly catch bonitos and mahi mahi, a great experience on light material.
This month is very varied in terms of catches. One year September is very good, the other year it is disappointing. The reason this month is so varied is because it is a transitional month. The marlins leave and the tunas arrive at the Canary Islands. You can think of this as a transition from summer to winter fishing.
October, November and December
This season is known for the different types of tuna that can be caught during this period. The species we can expect during this period are: Skipjack, Tuna, Albacore Tuna, Bigeye Tuna and Yellowfin Tuna. To catch these fish, we mainly fish chummily. an effective and fun way of fishing. Often several tunas are caught in one day. The weight of these fish varies between 20 and 150 kg. December, January and February This period is completely different from the other 3 seasons. During this period, fishing is mainly focused on certain fish species. Especially the large amber jackets and snappers (bass-like) are the target fish. It is also possible during this period to fish for: albacore and skipjack tuna, wahoo, barracuda and various shark and ray species.
You also have the possibility to combine fishing, for example one day for tuna or marlin and another day fishing at depth. The fishing will then be very varied and varied in terms of techniques and fish species that we will use and catch. Each fish species has its own approach, so it is important that this is properly discussed, so that we can do everything we can to let you catch the fish you want!
